Forson Amankwah handed late Ghana call-up for Nigeria, Uganda friendlies

RB Salzburg midfielder Forson Amankwah has been handed his first call-up to the Ghana national team, the Black Stars, in preparation for the forthcoming friendly encounters against Nigeria and Uganda.

The inclusion of the 21-year-old midfielder comes as a result of an unforeseen injury to Elisha Owusu during Auxerre’s recent league fixture against Caen.

Regrettably, Mohammed Diomande, an Ivory Coast-born midfielder also listed in the squad, is unlikely to participate in the upcoming matches due to delays in finalizing his naturalization process within the required timeframe.

Consequently, Amankwah’s presence is anticipated to bolster the midfield contingent, which currently faces a shortage of options.

Despite his lack of prior appearances for either the Black Stars or Ghana’s youth teams, Amankwah’s potential was evident when he was previously named in Chris Hughton’s extensive 55-man provisional squad for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

As a former player of WAFA, Amankwah represents one of the promising young talents under close observation by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
