The Black Stars of Ghana have been ranked 18th in the final standings of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament after a disappointing performance.

The West African country which was part of the 24 teams and was hoping to win its fifth title was booted out of the tournament at the group phase after finishing 3rd in Group B with just two points.

Ghana lost 1-2 to Cape Verde and drew 2-2 with Egypt and Mozambique respectively to exit the competition at the preliminary stage.

Ghana scored five goals in the tournament and conceded six goals with the Black Stars conceding twice in added-on time to Mozambique to miss out on securing a spot in the next round.

The first-round elimination means Ghana has suffered a second consecutive group phase exit.

The Black Stars finished 18th in the 24-team final standings after crashing out of the competition in the first round without a win.

Ivory Coast, who emerged as champions for the third time has been ranked the 1st team.

Nigeria, South Africa and DR Congo finished second, third and fourth respectively in the tournament.
