2023 AFCON: Asante Kotoko midfielder Richmond Lamptey expresses gratitude to media after earning Black Stars invite

Asante Kotoko midfielder Richmond Lamptey has expressed his gratitude to the Ghanaian media for highlighting his qualities, which have earned him a place in Ghana’s provisional Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) squad.

The former Inter Allies midfielder is among the 11 home-based players included in the 55-man provisional list that was revealed last week by Chris Hughton.

Lamptey exhibited top performance when Kotoko inflicted a 1-0 win over RTU in the week 16 of the Ghanaian top-flight on Sunday.

Reacting to his Black Stars call up, Lamptey thanked the media and promised to work hard in order to achieve his goals.

“I will thank the media. I won’t lose focus after making the Black Stars provisional squad, I will continue to work hard to achieve aim” he said after the game.

The 2023 AFCON is scheduled to take place from January 13 to February 11, 2024, in Ivory Coast, and Hughton has until January 3 to finalise his selection, trimming down the provisional squad to the final 27 players for the tournament.

Lamptey will hope to make the cut and contribute to the Black Stars’ success in the upcoming competition.
