In a thrilling showdown at the WAFA Park in Sogakope, the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League Week 17 witnessed an impressive display of skill and attack as Samartex emerged victorious with a convincing 3-1 win over Accra Lions.
The Friday afternoon clash unfolded with Dauda Yussif Seidu setting the tone for Samartex, striking the back of the net in the eighth minute. The away side continued to assert their dominance when Baba Hamadu Musa doubled the lead just seven minutes later, leaving Accra Lions trailing by 2-0 as both teams headed into the dressing room.
The halftime break saw Samartex making strategic changes, with Gyetuah and Ephson stepping in for Darko and Mamah. On the flip side, Accra Lions, trailing by two goals, responded with four changes between the 55th and 70th minutes in a bid to turn the tide.
The plot thickened in the 80th minute when Abdul-Shakun Abubakari managed to pull one back for Accra Lions, injecting a renewed sense of hope into the match.
However, any aspirations of a comeback were dashed in added time when Samartex substitute Michael Ephson sealed the victory with a third goal, securing a 3-1 victory.
