Ghanaian midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi personally turned down a late move to an unnamed Premier League club during the January transfer window, according to Viaplay.
The 20-year-old FC Nordsjaelland prospect attracted strong interest from England, with a reported €18 million bid arriving close to deadline day. While the Danish Superliga side had initially confirmed rejecting the offer, fresh reports indicate the player himself also opted against the switch.
Yirenkyi’s decision is understood to be motivated by his desire for consistent playing time and to strengthen his chances of earning a place in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada.
Although the identity of the Premier League club remains undisclosed, the size of the bid underlines the midfielder’s rising stock in European football.
The young Ghanaian has made 39 appearances for Nordsjaelland, registering three goals and six assists, and remains under contract with the club until 2030.
Nordsjaelland sporting director Alexander Riget admitted the proposal was financially attractive but emphasised the club’s long-term belief in the player’s value.
“It is clear that 18 million euros is a lot of money, but if you believe the player is worth more, it’s easy enough to say no,” Riget told Viaplay.
Yirenkyi, who has already earned eight caps for Ghana, will be aiming to cement his place in the Black Stars setup ahead of the World Cup, where Ghana are drawn in a challenging group alongside England, Croatia and Panama.
