Renowned sports journalist Yaw Ampofo Ankrah has been appointed as the new Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA)by ,President John Mahama
As a household name in Ghanaian sports media, Ankrah has made significant contributions as a television and radio presenter, as well as his leadership roles in the Ghana Beach Soccer Association and Beach Soccer Committee .
Ankrah’s appointment comes at a critical time for the NSA, which has faced challenges such as deteriorating infrastructure, funding shortages, and the need for modernized management.
The NSA has also faced intense scrutiny over its handling of national stadia, with predecessors like Prof. Peter Twumasi and Dodzie Numekevor drawing heavy criticism for mismanagement.
As Director-General, Ankrah is expected to collaborate closely with Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams to tackle these issues and elevate Ghana’s standing in regional and international competitions.
Ankrah’s proven track record of driving the growth of beach soccer in Ghana and delivering sharp critiques of football governance makes him an ideal candidate to bring fresh energy to the role.
