Yan Diomande’s RB Leipzig return casts fresh doubt on Real Madrid transfer

RB Leipzig have welcomed Yan Diomande back to their training camp as negotiations over a potential move to Real Madrid remain unresolved, raising fresh questions about whether the transfer is close to completion.

The Ivorian winger took part in Leipzig’s training session after recovering from an infection. The German club announced his return on social media with a message addressed directly to the player.

“Welcome back to training camp, Yan… After recovering from an infection, Yan Diomande is back in training,” Leipzig said.

The public welcome appears to represent a change in the situation surrounding the proposed transfer. While recent reports had suggested that an agreement between Leipzig and Real Madrid was effectively complete, Diomande’s return to the German club’s preparations indicates that the deal has not yet been finalised.

According to Spanish newspaper AS, Leipzig’s message can be viewed as a declaration of intent from the club. It suggests that the Bundesliga side does not consider an agreement to have been reached and is continuing to treat Diomande as part of its squad.

Until the past few hours, it had been widely assumed that the negotiations between Leipzig and Real Madrid had been settled and that Diomande would not travel with his current team-mates for the next stage of pre-season preparations.

That expectation has not been fulfilled. The absence of a final agreement has prolonged the talks, leaving the situation surrounding Diomande’s future unclear.

Real Madrid remain interested in signing the player, but all outstanding issues must be resolved before the transfer can be completed. The Spanish club would be taking a player valued at more than 100m euros if a deal is eventually concluded.

For now, Diomande’s presence at Leipzig’s training camp has added another twist to the negotiations. Rather than preparing to leave immediately, he has returned to work with the German club after his recovery, while discussions over his possible move to Real Madrid continue.

The final outcome will depend on whether Leipzig and Real Madrid can settle the remaining details. Until then, Diomande’s future remains uncertain, despite the recent belief that the transfer was close to being completed.
