Cristiano Ronaldo will remain absent from Al Nassr training as he continues his extended summer break, just 10 days before the Saudi Pro League season begins.
The Portugal captain has not joined Al Nassr’s overseas pre-season camp in Lisbon, which started on 19 July and ended on Tuesday. He was given additional time off following his involvement in the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
According to Saudi newspaper Al Riyadiyah, Al Nassr’s squad will return to Riyadh on Wednesday on a private flight after completing a camp that lasted more than two weeks.
The players will then be given only 24 hours away from football before reporting back for training on Friday at Al Nassr’s stadium in the Saudi capital. Ronaldo, however, is expected to remain on leave and will not take part in that session.
Ronaldo’s World Cup campaign ended on 6 July, when Portugal were beaten 1-0 by Spain in the last 16. That result marked the end of his international involvement in the tournament and began a holiday that has now lasted almost a month.
His continued absence comes shortly before Al Nassr begin their campaign on 15 August, when they face Al Fateh in the opening round of the Saudi Pro League.
Al Nassr will be aiming to retain the league title they won last season, ending a seven-year wait for the championship. The club will also pursue a first triumph in the AFC Champions League Elite, adding continental success to its domestic ambitions.
Ronaldo remains the central figure in Al Nassr’s plans as the club prepares for a demanding season. His break has allowed him time to recover after the World Cup, but the timing means he will have limited opportunity to work with his team-mates before the competitive campaign gets under way.
The club’s Lisbon camp was held as part of its preparations for the new 2026-27 season. With the squad due back in Riyadh and training scheduled to resume on Friday, attention will now focus on when Ronaldo is ready to return and how quickly he can be integrated into the final stages of Al Nassr’s preparations.
The first test will come against Al Fateh on 15 August, with Al Nassr beginning their defence of the Saudi Pro League title and their pursuit of the AFC Champions League Elite trophy.
