Black Starlets coach Paa Kwesi Fabin has blamed his side’s shocking 1-0 loss to Burkina Faso at the semi-finals on the center referee after a penalty-awarding decision.
The experienced tactician referred to the decision as “wonderful”and believes the referee denied the Black Starlets of a spot in the finals against Nigeria.
Ghana conceded a penalty in the second half which was expertly dispatched by Burkinabé forward Ousmane Kamara.
“In the first half we struggled a bit as the boys were not familiar with the instructions given. They came back stronger in the second half with a much better performance and really took to their opponents.”
“The opponents were awarded a wonderful penalty that cost us the game. We played really well and didn’t deserve such a decision”. Coach Paa Kwesi Fabin said in the post-match presser after the loss.
Burkina Faso will set up a final clash with Nigeria in the tournament and will represent Zone B in next year’s 2023 African Cup U17 championship.
The Black Starlets however have now failed twice to make it to the AFCON U 17 after previously failing in 2019.
They square off with Ivory Coast in the third place tie of the tournament later in the week.
