Vivianne Miedema, Netherlands – One To Watch

Vivianne Miedema is one of the stars of women’s football, and Netherlands’ all-time leading scorer. A brilliant, thrilling attacker, Miedema was one of the key players as Netherlands won Euro 2017 and then backed that up by reaching the 2019 FIFA World Cup final. She’s been a consistent scorer throughout her career and is still the youngest goalscorer in Eredivisie history.

She has racked up over 300 senior goals for club and country, fulfilling all the potential and hype that came her way as a teenager. Miedema is still only in her mid-20s, so has plenty of milestones to reach in her career.

With over 100 Netherlands caps already, Miedema has scored at an astonishing rate at international level. Bringing up a century of international goals during Euro 2022 might be a big ask, but with a player this talented, who would bet against her? Miedema will have a handful of warm-up games before the tournament gets underway to bring that 100-goal mark a little closer. After that, if the Netherlands are to defend their title, you can be sure it will owe much to their greatest-ever goalscorer.
