The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has thrown down a bold challenge to the Ghana national football team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cupreach the final.

As the world’s biggest football spectacle heads to the United States, Canada, and Mexico, Ghana will be making their fifth appearance on the grand stage. And this time, the message from the top is crystal clear: participation is not enough.

“Our intention is to stay there until the last game. So you have to prepare,” Adams declared.

“You don’t get there and start hoping. Once you have qualified, you plan ahead… We are going in there with the mindset that we will stay all the way to the end.”

After painful group-stage exits at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil and the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the Black Stars are under pressure to restore pride and reignite belief.

But the road will not be easy.

Ghana have been drawn into a fierce Group L battle alongside Panama national football team, England national football team, and Croatia national football team — a mix of European pedigree and CONCACAF grit.

The Stars open their campaign against Panama on June 17, before a heavyweight showdown with England on June 23. They wrap up group action against Croatia on June 27 in what could prove decisive.

Preparation is already in motion.

The team regroups in March for friendlies against Austria national football team and Germany national football team, before a final warm-up clash against Mexico national football team in May.

The Ghana Football Association has also confirmed that the Black Stars will base at Bryant University in the United States throughout the tournament — a strategic move aimed at ensuring focus and stability.

The ambition is daring. The expectation is rising. The countdown has begun.

And this time, Ghana isn’t just going to the World Cup.

They’re going with a promise.
