The Ghana women’s national football team will continue their campaign at the Pink Ladies Cup in the United Arab Emirates, despite rising regional tensions that briefly unsettled preparations.
Team Media Officer Matilda Dimedo has assured that the squad remains safe, composed, and in constant communication with tournament organisers and Ghana’s Consulate in the UAE.
The situation momentarily disrupted training after Ghana’s emphatic 4-0 demolition of Hong Kong women’s national football team in their tournament opener. Security concerns restricted access to their outdoor pitch, forcing the team indoors for gym sessions to maintain sharpness.
But the reassurance came swiftly.
Officials from Ghana’s diplomatic mission visited the team on Monday morning, offering guarantees of government backing and security protection — a move that steadied nerves within camp.
Dimedo did not mince words.
The atmosphere, she indicated, has significantly improved since Sunday when smoke was visible across parts of the skyline. Normal life is gradually returning in the host city, easing anxiety in the Ghanaian camp and clearing the path for a return to full training ahead of their next clash against Russia women’s national football team.
Travel plans, however, remain fluid.
The Queens could depart earlier than scheduled should regional airspace fully reopen before their final fixture against Tanzania women’s national football team. Otherwise, they will complete the tournament before heading home.
Beyond the immediate challenge, the Pink Ladies Cup serves as critical preparation for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. The Queens will round off their build-up with a final friendly against Ivory Coast women’s national football team before the continental showpiece kicks off later this month.
