Villefranche to earn 1st leg lead over Quevilly-Rouen

Monday evening brings us action from the French lower leagues as National 1 outfit, Villefranche, play host to Ligue 2 strugglers, Quevilly-Rouen, at their Stade Armand Chouffet in Tuesday night’s relegation/promotion play-off 1st leg tie.

Villefranche were desperately unlucky to miss out on automatic promotion as they were pipped to the post by 2nd placed Annecy by just a slender one-point margin.

Just two points separated 3rd placed Villefranche and the eventual National 1 title winners, Laval.

So, it’s back to business for Tuesday night’s hosts, Villefranche, as they look to draw upon encouraging results in recent times with the hosts winning their last five games on the trot, which have seen Villefrance record victories over Le Mans, Creteil-Lusitanos, Chateauroux, Sete and Bourg-en-Bresse respectively.

This promising sequence of results has also seen Villefranche win their last four home games on the trot at their Stade Armand Chouffet.

While the bigger picture shows Villefranche have lost just four out of their last 28 home games overall.

Onto Quevilly-Rouen, and the visitors now need to pick themselves up again after being dumped into the relegation play-off spot in Ligue 2 at the end of the regular season, their plight not being helped by the fact that the visitors won just three of their final 15 games overall in the French second tier.

Two of these three wins were actually achieved on home soil at their Stade Robert Diochon, while results away from home certainly did not do Quevilly-Rouen any favours as they recorded just five wins on the road throughout the campaign and also slipped to 11 defeats in the process.

Quevilly-Rouen may well be happy to earn a draw in this 1st leg and take their chances on home soil in the return leg, particularly.

The visitors have managed to pick up just two wins out of their last 13 outings on the road, whilst also incurring nine defeats in the process.

In addition, Quevilly-Rouen have kept just one clean sheet in these last 13 away games as well.

Villefranche have lost just one of the previous five meetings against Quevilly-Rouen, winning four of these encounters so the hosts look to have a decent chance of a result here on Tuesday night.
