VfL Wolfsburg vs Schalke 04 – 20/08/2022

Wolfsburg and Schalke set for a close encounter

739

On Saturday afternoon, Wolfsburg hosts Schalke at the Volkswagen Arena as both teams look for their first wins of the new Bundesliga campaign.

Wolfsburg

The Wolves have taken just one point from their two Bundesliga games this season. Niko Kovac’s team kicked off the campaign with a 2-2 draw against Werder Bremen before suffering a 2-0 defeat against reigning German champions Bayern Munich last time out.

This season’s underwhelming start to the new league campaign means that the Wolves have won just once in their previous five outings in the Bundesliga.

Poor defensive displays have been a factor in those recent poor results, as Wolfsburg have conceded at least two goals in their last three league matches.

Wolfsburg are unbeaten in four home games in the Bundesliga, having drawn their last two league matches on home soil. The Wolves have been prolific of late in front of goal, scoring at least two goals in their previous four league at the Volkswagen Arena.

Schalke

The Royal Blues won promotion back to the Bundesliga by winning the second-tier title last season.

Frank Kramer’s team started the league season with a 3-1 defeat at Koln before a 2-2 home draw against Monchengladbach last time out in the Bundesliga.

The poor start to their return to the Bundesliga means that Schalke has won just one of their last eight matches in the German top flight, suffering six defeats in the run, which dates back to 2021.

Schalke have yet to sort out the defensive problems that plagued their last campaign in the Bundesliga, as they have now conceded at least two goals in five of their last six matches in the German top-flight.

What does Forebet predict?

Forebet predicts that this game will end in a low-scoring draw, which will do neither team’s chances of pushing up the league much good.
