On Thursday afternoon, Uruguay and South Korea go head-to-head in Group H of the World Cup.

La Celeste qualified for the World Cup by finishing third in the South American qualification group. The South American nation will be taking part in their 14th World Cup in Qatar.

Their best finish at a World Cup came in the first-ever World Cup in 1930 when they lifted the trophy. They also returned to win the competition for the second time in 1950.

More recently, Uruguay finished fourth place at the 2014 World Cup. They also made the quarter-finals of the competition in 2018.

Uruguay’s recent form has been good, as Diego Alonso’s team has won seven of their last nine international matches. The key to La Celeste’s recent good form has been solid defensive displays, as Uruguay has kept clean sheets in six of their last seven games.

The good defensive displays have contributed to three of their previous four matches producing under 2.5 goals.

The Asian nation qualified for the World Cup by winning their group in the second round before finishing second in their group in the third round behind Iran in Group A. South Korea were difficult to beat in qualifying, suffering just one defeat in their 16 qualifiers.

Paulo Bento’s team has been in decent form ahead of Qatar 2022, winning six of their last nine international games.

A part of that good run has been that South Korea has kept clean sheets in four of their previous six games.

South Korea will be competing at their 11th World Cup, with their best performance being on home soil in 2002.
