Champions League match at the Johan Cruijff Arena, Amsterdam
TV: TNT Sports, Tuesday, 5:45pm
Over 2.5 Goals
Chelsea are red-hot favourites to take the win here in the first leg of their quarter-final face off against Ajax. The hosts though should prove tough to beat. Indeed, they’ve won all eight of their most recent fixtures and have won seven of their last eight on home soil, drawing the other one, scoring 25 goals over those eight games.
Chelsea have won nine of their last 10 matches and have won all seven of their most recent away games, scoring a healthy 19 times. With such impressive goal-scoring records, we have to back Over 2.5 Goals here.
Draw
We have to make a case for Ajax though. They’ve played eight home games in this season’s Champions League, winning seven of them and only losing one, a 0-1 loss to Arsenal back in September. Since then, they’ve won all five, scoring 10 goals.
Chelsea’s away Champions League form has seen them winning three and drawing too and will be without the services of a host of players. Chelsea do have the stronger squad on paper but Ajax’s home form and strong European form means there’s plenty of value to be had in backing a Draw.
Champions League match at the Estadio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica, Lisbon
TV: TNT Sports, Tuesday, 8pm
Both Teams to Score, Over 2.5 Goals
Lyon are very short odds to win the first leg of their quarter-final against Benfica. The French side have are unbeaten in the Champions League this season, winning four and drawing two, and have won 14 of their last 15 away games in all competitions, drawing the other one. They’ve also scored 24 goals over their last five away matches.
Benfica have played 10 games in their European campaign so far, winning six, drawing three, and losing one but have won five and drawn one of their six played on Portuguese soil. Over their last 10 at home, they’ve won eight, drawn one, and lost one, scoring 19 over their last five at home. Both teams are in very robust form in front of goal so we’re going to back Both Teams to Score along with Over 2.5 Goals.
