Tottenham Hostpurs boss Andre Villas-Boas has resurrected interest in Ghana winger Christian Atsu.
The English Premier League side had an offer for the 21-year-old rejected last summer by Porto.
The Portuguese champions have however failed to reach an agreement with the swift Ghanaian over a contract extension with his existing deal set to expire at the end of next season.
This has opened a window of opportunity for Spurs who will be looking to sign players as backups for Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon.
Spurs’ season-finale has been hit with injuries to these two influential players and AVB would like to avoid a poor finish next term with enough players in that position.
Sunderland are also said to be interested in Atsu but the ex Rio Ave loanee is likely to join up with AVB who gave him his first team break during his time with Porto.
Porto are however desperate to tie their young prodigy to a long-term contract with a £30m buyout clause.
But terms are yet to agreed upon by both parties – which increasingly weakens Porto’s position and now run the risk of losing the Ghana international for just £8m in the off-season.
