On-loan Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira has taken to social media on Thursday, to send a congratulatory message to former teammate Gabriel Martinelli.
Brazilian international Martinelli has of course seen his name take centre stage in the headlines across the day to date.
This comes after the 20-year-old, as part of the release of Arsenal’s new kit, unveiled his new number as part of Mikel Arteta’s squad.
Since his arrival at the Emirates back in 2019, Martinelli has donned the number 35 jersey. On Thursday, though, the former Ituano man saw his increasing importance to the Gunners cause recognised by means of a new number – 11.
And, as alluded to above, one player on Arsenal’s books who was quick to send a message of congratulations to Martinelli came in the form of Lucas Torreira.
In something of a tongue-in-cheek post, the Uruguayan took to the comments section of the club’s post regarding their latest squad change, to question ‘What number will I wear next year?’ This comes with Torreira having himself been the owner of Arsenal’s no.11 during the early years of his stint in the English capital.
Making clear that there is no bad blood between the parties, though, the midfielder went on to add: ‘Good luck amigo. I love you’.

Torreira shining
Torreira’s message, of course, comes with the South American in the midst of a highly productive loan spell away from the Emirates at present.
After struggling for game-time with Atletico Madrid last season, Torreira secured a return to Italy, linking up with Fiorentina for the 2021/22 campaign.
And the 26-year-old has since gone on to rediscover his brilliant best, en route to 30 Serie A appearances, as well as a head-turning trio of Viola Player of the Month awards.
