Former Youth and Sports Minister Elvis Afriyie Ankrah has called for a major overhaul in Ghana sports, citing the need for a “reset”.
This comes after the Black Stars’ disappointing failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, which will be held in Morocco next year.
Ghana’s inability to qualify for the tournament is a significant blow, marking the first absence in 20 years.
The Black Stars finished bottom of Group F with just three points, having failed to pick up a win in six matches.
“It was very very sad particularly when Kudus was going to take the penalty and the way the crowd was jeering at him, I was so shocked,” he told Channel One TV.
“I’ve never seen anything like that and I think that it’s about time, the whole country take a closer look at the entire Black Stars, soccer, and sports and do a rethink; it’s time for a reset,” he added.
Following Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 AFCON tournament, the Management Committee has been dissolved with the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) expected to decide on Otto Addo’s future soon.
