Ghana’s U-20 national team, the Black Satellites, have returned to Accra after a hard-fought campaign in the ongoing U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt.
Their journey ended at the quarterfinal stage following a dramatic 5-4 penalty shootout defeat to the host nation after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
Despite the elimination, the Satellites drew praise for their bold, attacking play and resilience—qualities that have reignited belief in the country’s youth football development.
Addressing the press at the Kotoka International Airport, Head Coach Desmond Ofei praised the squad for their dedication.
“They gave everything for the shirt,” Ofei said. “Their spirit, discipline, and commitment were second to none. I’m proud of what they showed on the pitch. My gratitude also goes to the technical team and management for their incredible support.”
Alhaji Abu Hassan ‘Rhyzo’, who led the Ghanaian delegation and chairs the Black Satellites Management Committee, also commended the team.
“The boys played with passion and made us proud,” he remarked. “Though we didn’t go all the way, the performance points to a promising future for Ghana football. We wish them all the best in their careers.”
The Black Satellites are expected to regroup soon as preparations begin for the WAFU Zone A & B Boys Cup, their next major assignment
