The Mohammed Kudus v Brian Brobbey conundrum for Ajax coach Schreuder

Ajax coach Alfred Schreuder faces a selection headache following Mohammed Kudus’ resurgence in the ongoing campaign.

The Ghanaian midfielder has forced his way back into the manager’s reckoning after a difficult start to the season on and off the pitch.

The 22 year old who was linked with a move to English Premier League side Everton in the summer transfer window netted his first goal of the season in the Eredivisie last weekend.

He climbed off the bench to seal the victory for Ajax in the 4-0 thumping of Cambuur.

“He really has everything a good midfielder should have,” said ex-Ajax captain Rafael Van der Vaart after the match.

“He is incredibly strong on the ball. A wonderful player to watch. That is why Ajax did not let him go. I think they’re going to have a lot of fun watching him” he concluded.

Kudus followed that up with a man of the match display on his first start for the Dutch giants this season in the UEFA Champions League in midweek.

He scored a stunning solo goal and provided an assist in the 4-0 victory over Rangers in their group A opener at the Johan Cryuff Arena on Wednesday.

Two undeniable displays that has put pressure on Ajax coach Alfred Schreuder to start Kudus ahead of Dutch star Brian Brobbey this weekend.

”All I want from today is for Mohammed Kudus to start, no matter the position on the pitch” A dyed in the wool Ajax fan tweeted ahead of their league match against Heerenveen today.

However according to Dutch journalist, Dick Sintenie, Brobbey will keep his starting role in the Eredivisie while Kudus starts in the UEFA Champions.

“Don’t be surprised if Schreuder now chooses Kudus in the Champions League and Brobbey in the competition. I think Brobbey will play against Heerenveen again on Saturday,” he said.

Kudus is expected to start for Ajax when they lock horns with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at Anfield Stadium on Tuesday.
