Sundsvall Expected to Lose Again as Mjällby Put Pressure on the European Spots

GIF Sundsvall will meet with Mjallby AIF at the NP3 Arena this weekend as the home side look for just their second win of the season during the early stages of the Allsvenskan with the away outfit here aiming to put pressure on those inside the European spots.

While the majority of Europe closes the curtain on their seasons, over in Sweden, things are just getting going and it’s been a very interesting first few weeks to analyse.

Sundsvall are back in the Allsvenskan after earning promotion last time out, and they are yet to put down their marker on the season so far since their promotion.

As of now, the club have only managed to win one of their eight games so far, but on the other hand, they do have a game in hand on Helsingborg just above them, but they do trail the safe zone by three points where they do not have a game in hand, meaning all three points is vital for them right now.

The only victory to date for them is the 1-0 narrow victory over Kalmar FF, as Pontus Engblom scored once again to rescue his side, despite seeing very little of the ball in the game.

In fact, Sundsvall had five shots on target in the game in what was a decent attacking display, but they did see only 32% of the ball in their sole win of the campaign thus far.

Henrik Åhnstrand’s men have, however, lost every game since that win as they lost to IF Elfsborg 3-1, AIK 2-0, Degerfors 3-2, as they were dominated 5-1 by Norrkoping 5-1 in the last game. Saku Ylatupa scored for Sundsvall in that latest victory, just as he netted twice in the 3-2 loss to Dgerfors.

This disastrous run for the bottom-placed side in the Allsvenskan has meant they’ve scored only seven times in the league and conceded 22 times as well, while losing seven of the eight games.

As for Mjällby, they have not won their past two games since beating Helsingborg, as Malmo took all three points off them before they drew 1-1 with Varnamo.

It keeps them in sixth, but with them trailing the Europa Conference League positions by only three points, they could find themselves in a promising position with a win here.

It’s hard to back Sundsvall to win here, and Forebet predicts a victory for the away side and for the game to see over 2.5 goals.
