Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, says the government is committed to improving infrastructure as part of a broader national recreation agenda.
He emphasized that this initiative is a major priority for President John Mahama, aimed at enhancing the well-being of Ghanaians through accessible and quality recreational facilities.
Currently in Morocco to support the Black Queens at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, the Minister noted the trip also serves as “a learning opportunity.”
“His Excellency the President did not rename the Ministry to Sports and Recreation for nothing,” he told reporters during a media interaction.
“He did so because he wants us to pay particular attention to issues of recreation.”
Adams believes increased focus on recreation will lead to better work-life balance and reduce healthcare costs.
He argued that improved infrastructure will play a key role in addressing non-communicable diseases.
According to him, the government’s goal is to make recreational spaces a permanent fixture in the national development agenda.
