2044

Manchester City will start matchday 30 in second place and eight points behind first-place Arsenal. The Cityzens can cut into Arsenal’s lead with a win on Saturday evening against Southampton.

Arsenal will play 24 hours later against Liverpool at Anfield, a difficult stadium to claim a result at. This could be Manchester City’s weekend to reduce Arsenal’s Premier League lead to five points.

Southampton are aiming to end a four-game winless streak against the Cityzens. The Saints are bottom of the Premier League table and four points from safety.

A loss to Manchester City could seal the Saints’ fate in the relegation race. The bottom half of the table is very competitive, and it could be too difficult for Southampton to overcome relegation following a loss on Saturday.

Southampton did claim a win over Manchester City earlier this season in the League Cup quarterfinals. Ruben Selles’ team won 2-0 at St Mary’s, as they put in one of their best performances of the season.

The Saints are unbeaten in three of their last six games against Manchester City in all competitions. They won one time and drew two games against Manchester City during that six-game span.

Manchester City took 16 points from the last six matches in the Premier League. They outscored opponents 15-4 across those six matches.

City are on a two-game away win streak going into their trip to St Mary’s.

Southampton picked up five points from the last six games in the league. They are on a four-match winless streak ahead of Man City’s arrival.

Southampton are the Premier League’s worst home team, with a record of 2W-4D-8L, and a goal difference of –10.

Southampton have allowed the fifth-most goals this season with 47. At the opposite end of the pitch, Southampton scored the joint-fewest goals with 23.

Man City have the second-best defence, with just 26 goals allowed.

Phil Foden is still out of action after having his appendix removed. Erling Haaland could return to the team after missing last weekend’s win over Liverpool. The striker is recovering from a groin injury.

Selles will be without Valentino Livramento and Armel Bella-Kotchap due to injuries. Che Adams and Mohamed Salisu could be fit to face City, however. Juan Larios is out with an injury.

Southampton may have won in the cup earlier this season, but Manchester City should pick up a 2-1 win over the Saints this time around. City are in fine form once more, while the Saints are struggling.
