Former Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Solomon Agbasi is close to completing a move to South African Premier Soccer League club Stellenbosch FC, with the transfer understood to be in its final stages.
The 25-year-old is currently without a club after his contract with Hearts of Oak expired at the end of the 2025/26 season. Stellenbosch are completing the remaining paperwork before confirming the signing officially.
The South African side have identified Agbasi as an important addition to their goalkeeping department as they prepare for the new campaign, which will include domestic football and continental competition.
Agbasi became one of the Ghana Premier League’s most dependable goalkeepers during his time with Hearts of Oak. His commanding presence, quick reactions, strength in the air and ability to save shots consistently established him as a key member of the Phobians squad.
His performances also helped him earn international recognition, with Agbasi selected in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Benjamin Asare started all three of Ghana’s group-stage matches against Panama, England and Croatia. Agbasi did not feature in those games but remained an important part of the Black Stars squad throughout the tournament, offering competition and experience within the goalkeeping group.
Ghana reached the Round of 32 for the first time since 2010 at the World Cup, and Agbasi’s involvement in the squad further raised his profile. His selection also reflected the confidence placed in him by Ghana’s technical staff.
A move to Stellenbosch FC would be Agbasi’s first professional club experience outside Ghana and would represent a significant new stage in his career.
The Cape Winelands-based club have developed a reputation as one of South Africa’s fastest-rising teams. Stellenbosch have regularly challenged near the top of the Premier Soccer League and have also competed in CAF inter-club competitions.
The proposed move would make Agbasi the latest Ghanaian footballer to continue his career in South Africa. It is also expected to support his ambitions of remaining involved with the Black Stars ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and future international assignments.
Stellenbosch are yet to make an official announcement, with the final formalities of the transfer still being completed. If those steps are concluded as expected, Agbasi will begin his first spell outside Ghana with a club seeking to build on its progress in domestic and continental football.
