Ghana international Abdul Mumin has emerged as a transfer target for Girona FC after becoming a free agent following his departure from Rayo Vallecano.
The 28-year-old centre-back officially became available on 1 July 2026, ending a successful four-year spell with the Madrid-based club. Girona are understood to be monitoring his situation as they look to strengthen their defence before the 2026/27 La Liga season, although no formal agreement has been reached.
Mumin joined Rayo Vallecano from Portuguese side Vitoria Guimaraes in September 2022 and went on to establish himself as one of the club’s most reliable defenders. During his time in Spain, he made 63 La Liga appearances, scored three goals and provided one assist.
His performances earned recognition for his physical strength, aerial ability and composure in possession. Mumin also became known for his willingness and ability to help build attacks from the back, qualities that have contributed to his reputation as an experienced central defender in Spain’s top flight.
Before moving to Rayo Vallecano, Mumin spent an impressive period with Vitoria Guimaraes. He played 51 matches in Liga Portugal during his time at the Portuguese club, further establishing himself as one of Ghana’s leading defensive exports in European football.
The defender’s 2025/26 campaign was disrupted by a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury. The ACL problem kept him out of action for several months and interrupted his involvement during an important stage of the season.
Mumin nevertheless recovered in time to be selected in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. His return to the international set-up highlighted both the progress he made during his rehabilitation and the confidence placed in him by the Black Stars technical team.
A move to Girona would enable Mumin to remain in La Liga while joining a club with ambitions to continue developing its squad. Girona are seeking to reinforce their options ahead of the new campaign as they prepare to compete domestically and in European competition.
For Mumin, a transfer would represent an opportunity to continue his career in Spain after four seasons with Rayo Vallecano. His availability also makes him a potential option for clubs looking to add experience and defensive strength without an existing transfer agreement in place.
Girona’s reported interest remains at the monitoring stage, with no deal confirmed. The club’s attention on Mumin follows his departure from Rayo Vallecano and comes as preparations continue for the 2026/27 La Liga season.
