Senegal’s head coach Pape Thiaw has been banned for five CAF matches and fined $100,000 for unsporting conduct after instructing his players to leave the pitch during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final against Morocco.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) also fined the Senegal Football Federation (FSF) $615,000 for various offenses, including supporter misconduct and unsporting behavior by players and technical staff.
Thiaw’s ban stems from his reaction to a disputed penalty awarded to Morocco in the dying stages of the match.
The penalty was missed, and Senegal went on to win 1-0 in extra time. Players Iliman Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr were also suspended for two CAF games for unsporting behavior towards the referee.
CAF rejected Morocco’s appeal to overturn the match result. The sanctions aim to uphold fair play and integrity in African football.
