Bournemouth’s European aspirations took a big hit as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday.
Villa were rewarded for their persistent probing in first half stoppage time when forward Ollie Watkins finished off a Morgan Rogers move to give the visitors a deserved lead.
Despite Antoine Semenyo flashing an effort wide from inside the box in the second half, Bournemouth struggled to create openings, succumbing to a 1-0 defeat.
The result means Villa continue their strong push for a place in the Champions League next season aftee picking up their seventh win in their last eight games, while Bournemouth are languishing in 10th.
Bournemouth are eight points behind Nottingham Forest, who are seventh and occupy the last European qualification spot.
After a strong start to the season, recent performances from Bournemouth have been tepid, leading to their European ambitions fading into thin air.
