Savinho weighing Manchester City exit as Tottenham step up pursuit

Savinho is open to leaving Manchester City in the current transfer window, with Tottenham stepping up their interest in signing the Brazil winger.

The 22-year-old is a key attacking target for Spurs head coach Roberto de Zerbi, and City are understood to be fully aware of the north London club’s attempts to lure him to the Premier League rivals.

Moves behind the scenes have already begun over a possible switch to London, with Savinho believed to be actively exploring the prospect of a transfer to Tottenham before the window closes.

Savinho joined City from sister club Troyes for £30.8m in July 2024, after impressing during a season-long loan at Spanish side Girona. At the time, he was regarded as one of the most promising wide forwards in Europe.

Spurs return after failed 2024 move

Tottenham tried to sign Savinho last summer, but City were unwilling to do business then and instead brought the Brazilian straight into Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad.

City’s stance effectively ended Spurs’ hopes at that stage, forcing them to abandon talks despite their strong interest in the player.

The winger went on to sign a two-year contract extension in October 2024, tying him to the Etihad Stadium until 2031 and further underlining City’s faith in his potential.

From regular under Guardiola to reduced role

Savinho featured heavily in his first campaign under Guardiola, making 48 appearances in all competitions and scoring three goals as he adapted to English football.

However, his involvement decreased last season, which was Guardiola’s final year in charge. The Brazilian played 36 matches in all competitions, with more of those coming from the bench as his opportunities in the starting XI became less frequent.

Increased competition for places on the flanks contributed to his reduced game time. Rayan Cherki, who arrived from Lyon last summer, and Antoine Semenyo, signed from Bournemouth in January, were both deployed on the right-hand side, adding further depth in Savinho’s preferred area of the pitch.

That battle for minutes is understood to be one factor behind his openness to a new challenge, with Tottenham offering the prospect of a more prominent role under De Zerbi.

Long contract, complex negotiations

With Savinho contracted until 2031, any agreement is likely to require detailed negotiations between the clubs, although no fee has yet been disclosed.

City’s awareness of Tottenham’s interest, combined with the player’s willingness to consider a move, has created the conditions for talks to progress as the window gathers pace.

For now, Savinho remains a Manchester City player, but his future at the Etihad is increasingly in focus as Spurs look to capitalise on his desire for greater opportunities and a fresh start in London.
