Newcastle v Tottenham
Premier League match at St James’ Park, Newcastle
TV: TNT Sports 1, Saturday, 12:30pm
Newcastle to Win
Both teams come into this game with the same record in their past three games of win-draw-win and although 13 points and four places separate the two in the Premier League table, they feel far closer than that in reality, with both teams even scoring the same amount of goals, 65, this season, and across the past 10 games they’re fourth and fifth in the form table
Spurs won this season’s earlier meeting in North London 4-1 but the previous two had been won by Newcastle 6-1 and 2-1. The real concern for Spurs is how weak they are at the back, they consistently give away goals and against a top team like Newcastle that’s a recipe for disaster. With the St James’ Park crowd behind them, Newcastle should come out on top.
Both Teams to Score
Spurs have failed to score just once in the Premier League all season. An astonishing record that is only let down by a 3-0 away defeat to Fulham last month. They’re a team capable of scoring, and scoring a lot.
Ultimately, their great attacking threat is also their Achilles’ heel, and Ange Postecoglou’s naive approach to defending has also seen their opposition score in 10 of their last 11 in the Premier League and let the likes of Luton and Nottingham Forest scoring against them in the past month too.
Over 3.5 Goals
Over 2.5 goals has landed in 10 of the last 11 Premier League meetings between these two clubs at St James’ Park, so we’re going to play Over 3.5 Goals instead. Both teams have been very good in front of goal this season, with both being weak at the back, either through naivety or injury.
If you look back at Tottenham’s past six Premier League games away from home they’ve seen Over 3.5 land on four occasions. We’ve also seen plenty of goals at St James’ Park with five of Newcastle’s past seven hitting four or more goals.
Alexander Isak to Score
With Alexander Isak we’re getting a player who offers us both quality and form, both key parts in picking a leg for a Bet Builder. We’ve all seen his quality this season, he’s big but quick and strong yet agile, and the numbers back it up too. He’s scored 15 goals in 23 league games for Newcastle and is now surely their best striker since Alan Shearer.
He also comes into this in red-hot form. He may have put up a blank last time out but across his past five games in the Premier League, he’s scored five goals. He’s the dangerman for Eddie Howe’s team and is playing with real confidence.
Don’t forget about our new Super Sub offer where if you back a player in certain markets, if they’re substituted their picks transfer over to who they’ve been replaced by. Read more about Paddy Power’s Super Sub offer here.
Bruno Guimaraes to be Shown a Card
To finish off this Bet Builder we’re going to back Bruno Guimaraes to get booked. The 26-year-old has had another excellent season in black and white and is the heart of his team’s midfield. His skill in breaking up play and then setting off attacks is absolutely key to how Newcastle play.
His ability can get him in trouble though and he’s averaged 1.3 fouls per game across 30 matches this season. Not only that, he’s had nine yellow cards, just under one every three games. With this likely being a tough and frantic affair, it’s poised for him to get his 10th booking of the season.
