Aston Villa v Wolves
Premier League match at Villa Park, Birmingham
TV: Sky Sports Football/Main Event, 5:30pm
Over 2.5 Goals
Neither Aston Villa nor Wolves have proved particularly adept at keeping clean sheets in recent weeks. Villa have not kept a league clean sheet in almost two months, conceding 12 goals in their last six games.
Wolves, on the other hand, have kept just two clean sheets in their last nine games in all competitions, conceding 16 goals in the process. The away side come into this Derby off the back of a shocking 3-2 defeat against Coventry in the last eight of the FA Cup, while Villa last played in a potentially damaging draw at West Ham before the international break.
Both sides will be targeting a win on Sunday to kick off the business end of the season on the front foot, but they will likely have to score at least twice to claim three points.
Aston Villa to have 7 or more Shots on Target
Villa average 14.5 shots per game in the league this season – the sixth-highest of any team in the division – which just happens to be almost exactly the same as the number of shots that Wolves face – the eighth-highest record in the league. It is fair to assume that Villa will pepper the Wolves’ goal with shots on Sunday.
In their last five home league games, Unai Emery’s side have registered 30 efforts on target, an impressive average of six per game. That average even allows for their most recent home game against Spurs, which saw them find the target just once in a 4-0 reversal.
There is an excellent chance that they will lay siege to the Wolves goal on Sunday.
Wolves to Commit 13 or more Fouls
Only Chelsea and Bournemouth have committed more fouls than Wolves this season. Gary O’Neil’s side average 12.2 fouls per game in the league this season and are decent value to better that average against Villa ok Sunday.
Villa draw the third-highest number of fouls in the division, drawing an average of 12.4 per game. Playing at home in a game where they are likely to dominate the ball it is entirely conceivable that they will draw at least 13 fouls.
Over 5.5 Cards
Unsurprisingly, given their tendency to commit a high number of fouls, Wolves rank among the worst teams in the league in terms of discipline. O’Neil’s side have received 68 bookings and three red cards in 29 games this season – the sixth-highest number of cards in the league and an average of well over two per game.
Villa, however, have received even more cards than their Midlands rivals. Emery’s side have picked up 76 bookings and two sending offs in 29 games – the third-highest tally in the league. Considering Sunday’s game is a Derby with plenty on the line, there is a good chance of a high card count.
Corner Match Bet, Aston Villa
Villa will almost certainly enjoy more possession and territory on Sunday afternoon. Emery’s side average 55% possession in the Premier League, almost 8% higher than Wolves’ average of 47.6%.
On average, they attempt far more shots and register far more shots on target, while they have won the third-most corners in the league this season. Villa’s tally of 184 corners dwarves Wolves’ tally of just 120, the third-lowest in the division. They will almost certainly win more corners on Sunday.
