With 2nd placed Aduana Stars playing on Saturday as visitors in Bechem and suffering their 15th defeat of the season, Samartex needed to beat Gold Stars in order to be crowned champions in a must-win game.
A nerve wracking opening half saw both defences come out on top, with Samartex treading cautiously.
However, Mamah’a strike gave the home side a cushion, allowing them to play their free-flowing football, bambozling Gold Stars in the process.
Samartex managed to hold on to their lead, defending resolutely to come away with a 1-0 win and a first-ever Ghana Premier League crown.
Samartex, based in Samreboi and renowed for making the finiest of woods, have amassed 58 points so far, 12 more than they managed in the entirety of last season.
With two games to spare until the climax of the league, Samartex have a significant role to play in the battle for survival as well, with a game against relegation threatened Karela next on the cards. Ultimately, coach Nurudeen Amadu and his side will represent Ghana at the CAF Champions League next season.
