Former Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association, Ibrahim Sannie Daara, has expressed disappointment with Otto Addo’s decision to sideline Andre Ayew during the Black Stars’ AFCON qualification campaign.
Daara argues that Addo’s choice to exclude Ayew significantly contributed to Ghana’s failure to qualify for the tournament.
The Black Stars ended their qualification campaign at the bottom of Group F with just three points from six matches.
He stressed that Ayew’s experience and leadership would have been invaluable to the team’s efforts.
“The point of the decision not to come along with Andre Ayew, at a time that he himself has not taken a decision to exclude himself from the team and he was back playing,” he told Joy FM.
“I think he should have left the window open for Andre to make a decision by himself, and that would have endeared him to a lot of people.
“You hear a lot of the ex-players say the way we retire players, complain the way we retire players is not the right way, and I thought Otto could have better handled the situation.”
Ayew has not been part of the Black Stars since March’s international friendlies against Nigeria and Uganda.
The veteran forward returned to France to rejoin Le Havre on a deal until the end of the campaign.
