Adjei lost his place as first choice to Richard Kingson in the build up to the 2006 World Cup and reacted angrily after having to again watch the 2008 Nations Cup as substitute. He has rescinded that resignation and has been in brilliant form for Accra Hearts of Oak for whom he has been first choice this season. It is a form he is hoping to carry into the Black Stars where will compete with Richard Kingson and Isaac Amoako for the top goalkeeping slot. “I am just happy to get my chance again,” he told KickOffGhana.com. “Now I just need to get in, work hard and see what happens.” Adjei’s recall will delight those who have been worried at the fact that Kingson has been undisputed first choice despite barely getting a game at club level. The Blackpool goalkeeper has been outstanding at international level for Ghana but went into the 2010 World Cup without a single game to his name for then club Wigan Athletic. Hearts of Oak Paa Kwasi Fabian is in no doubt the goalkeeper can give Kingson a good run for the position. “There is more room for improvement but he has been in fantastic form,” Fabian told KickOffGhana.com. “I told him before the season started that I intended to build the season around his expertise and asked that he ups his game because once he did his performances will earn him a recall and that is exactly what has happened. All of us at the club are happy for him because he has been in good form this season.” Adjei was first choice goalkeeper for Ghana at the 2002 and 2006 Nations Cup in addition to helping Hearts of Oak to their only African Cup title to date in 2000.
