Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup have suffered a serious setback following confirmation of a long-term injury to defender Mohammed Salisu.
AS Monaco disclosed that the centre-back sustained a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during the closing stages of their 3-1 Ligue 1 loss to Olympique Lyonnais.
Subsequent medical assessments revealed the full extent of the damage, ruling the Ghana international out for the rest of the season.
The French club has assured Salisu of full medical and technical support as he begins a lengthy rehabilitation process.
The injury came at a particularly unfortunate time for Monaco, who were already struggling for consistency in their push for European qualification.
Salisu had become a key figure in the starting line-up, stepping up in the absence of defensive options such as Christian Mawissa and Eric Dier.
His unavailability now leaves a notable gap in Monaco’s backline for the remainder of the campaign.
For Ghana, the loss of one of their most reliable defenders raises fresh concerns ahead of crucial World Cup qualifying engagements.
