Rodri has arrived in Barcelona to complete his move from Manchester City, with the midfielder due to undergo medical and physical examinations before signing his contract with the Catalan club.
Barcelona and Manchester City reached an initial agreement over the transfer on Sunday, according to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo. The proposed deal is worth 60m euros in fixed payments, with a further 11m euros available in add-ons linked to the trophies Barcelona win.
Rodri travelled to Barcelona on Monday evening after the agreement was reached. A number of media organisations were waiting for him when he arrived, and he gave his first comments before officially completing the move.
“I’m happy to arrive, it’s been a hectic few days.. Happy to be here. Playing for Barcelona is a dream. We will go for the Champions League and every title available to us,” Rodri told reporters.
The midfielder then went to the hotel where he will stay until he secures a new home.
Rodri is scheduled to complete his medical and physical tests on Tuesday morning. Those examinations are the next step before he signs his Barcelona contract and finalises a move which is expected to become one of the club’s most notable deals of the summer transfer window.
His arrival followed the initial agreement between the two clubs on Sunday, with the structure of the fee consisting of a guaranteed 60m euros and performance-related payments worth up to 11m euros. The additional amount is linked to the honours achieved by Barcelona.
The 29-year-old was met by several members of the media outside his arrival point in Barcelona. His brief statement made clear his ambitions with his new club, with success in the Champions League among the targets he identified.
Rodri’s comments came before the formal signing, while his medical and physical assessments will determine the final stages of the transfer process. Until those procedures are completed, he will remain at the hotel arranged for his stay in the city.
Once the examinations and contract formalities are finished, the move from Manchester City to Barcelona will be complete. For now, the Spain midfielder has begun his time in Barcelona by expressing his satisfaction at arriving and his intention to compete for every available trophy.
The transfer has already been agreed in principle, but the outstanding medical checks and contract signing remain important steps before Rodri becomes an official Barcelona player.
