More than three years after his dismissal as Black Stars head coach, CK Akonnor has finally received the full balance of his contractual arrears worth a sum of $120,000.
The payment, which also covers the salary owed to his former assistant David Duncan – $40,000 – was confirmed in documents intercepted by JoySports.
This settles a long-standing issue that had cast a shadow over the ministry’s handling of national team coaches’ compensation.
Akonnor’s tenure, which lasted 21 months, ended abruptly after a 1-0 loss to South Africa in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
At the time of his exit, Ghana had only managed three points from two games, leaving qualification hopes in doubt.
His replacement, Serbian coach Milovan Rajevac, would eventually guide the team to the final round of qualifiers, ultimately securing spot at the 2022 Mundial.
