Morocco’s head coach Walid Regragui and captain Achraf Hakimi emphasized the importance of humility and respect ahead of their AFCON 2025 opener against Comoros.
The 1976 champions are the bookies favourite to go all the way in the tournament being hosted on home soil.
“All matches are the same and all games are but tomorrow is special because it’s the opener and it’s organized here so we want to play good football with humility and respect our opponents,” Regragui said in his pre game presser.
Hakimi, who has been recovering from an ankle injury, expressed his determination to be part of the team.
“I was scared after my injury. I didn’t want to miss this Cup of Nations that we are hosting… I want to see Morocco lift this cup on January 18th,” he said.
Regragui praised Hakimi’s commitment, stating, “He sacrificed himself for the country for four or five weeks. His progress is more than positive”
Morocco will face Comoros in their Group A opener at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
