Former President Mahama has charged the Ghana Football Association to improve the domestic top-flight league to enable an increase in attendance at various stadia.
He made this comment after the football governing body paid him a visit at his residence.
Spectatorship has been a major concern for the Ghana Premier League with the two most glamorous clubs – Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko, having to implore fans especially on social for support during match days.
Mahama is urging the Ghana FA to work around improving the league to enable fans feel the need to troop to match venues.
“I know there are challenges in the domestic League because our people are more interested in the foreign league and so people don’t come to the stadium as they should but it is normal a good family entertainment, but we need to raise the standard so people will love to come to the stadium,” Mahama said.
The delegation led by GFA boss Kurt E.S Okraku, General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo and some Executive Council Members presented the national team jersey to the former head of state.
The Betpawa Premier League will resume over the weekend after Ashgold injunction was dismissed by Human Right Court.
