Chesterfield have added England-Ghana central midfielder Rafiq Lamptey to their squad on a loan deal from Millwall U21. The 19-year-old joins the League Two side for the 2026-27 campaign, bolstering their options in the middle of the pitch.

Lamptey, who was born on 24 August 2006, moves to the Technique Stadium after two seasons in Millwall’s youth set-up. His loan to Chesterfield runs until the end of May 2027, when he is scheduled to return to the Championship club’s under-21s.

The midfielder previously made the step up from non-league football when he left Harrow Borough to sign for Millwall U21 on a free transfer in August 2024. His progress there has now earned him a first move into the EFL with Chesterfield.

Lamptey operates primarily as a central midfielder and has already experienced senior competitive action, featuring in the FA Cup and registering an assist during a 24-minute appearance. That outing offered an early glimpse of his ability to influence games from midfield.

Eligible to represent both England and Ghana, Lamptey will now look to establish himself in a first-team environment for the first time at league level. His arrival strengthens Chesterfield’s central options as they prepare for the demands of a League Two season.

The deal sees Lamptey remain under contract with Millwall U21 while spending the 2026-27 season on loan at Chesterfield.
