Pressure more on Ghana to qualify for the World Cup - Egypt captain Gomaa

Egypt captain Wael Gomaa says the pressure is more on Ghana to qualify for the 2014 World Cup ahead of next month’s epic playoff clash against the Black Stars.

The Pharaohs are the latest stumbling block in Ghana’s path haven been drawn against the Black Stars in the final qualifying round for next year’s tournament in Brazil.

Both camps have immense respect for each other for varied reasons.

While Ghana boasts of current form with their world acclaimed superstars, Egypt on the other hand can point at their unrivaled history in African football and 100 percent record so far in the qualifiers.

This has increased apprehension between fans of both countries as the epic first leg clash in October draws closer.

But Pharaohs captain Wael Gomaa believes the pressure is more on Ghana who are determined to clinch a third successive World Cup finals berth especially with inspiration drawn from their last competitive win over the Black Stars.

“The fact that the return leg will take place here in Egypt is not of much significance; Ghana are a big side that know well how to deal with similar situations,” he said.

“I think the team that face Egypt will be the one under pressure and not otherwise.

“Don’t forget that our last meeting ended up with us winning and clinching the Nations Cup title.”
