On Thursday night, Portugal hosts Liechtenstein in Group J of qualifying for Euro 2024, with both teams looking to kick off their campaigns with a victory.
The Selecao heads into this game in unconvincing form, as they head into this clash on the back of two defeats in their last three international matches. The last defeat saw Portugal exit the World Cup at the hands of Morocco in the competition’s quarter-finals.

This will be Roberto Martinez’s debut as the Selecao head coach after the exit of Fernando Santos.
Despite that relatively poor recent run, Portugal has a stellar record in European Championship qualifiers, winning 12 of their last 15 qualifiers. That record includes winning five of their last six matches in qualifying.
Portugal also has a decent recent home record in European Championship qualifying, as they are unbeaten in seven home qualifiers, having recorded five wins in the process. They have conceded just one goal in their last five qualifiers on home soil.
The visitors are one of the whipping boys of the international game. In fact, Liechtenstein heads into this game on the back of 13 straight international defeats.
One of the main problems for Lichtenstein has been scoring goals, as they have failed to score in 12 of their last 13, scoring just one goal in the run.
At the other end of the pitch, they conceded at least two goals in six of their last seven international outings.
Liechtenstein also has a poor recent record in European Championships qualifying, as they have failed to win in their last 16 qualifiers suffering 13 defeats. They have also lost six of their previous seven away qualifiers in the European Championship.
