Black Queens defender Blessing Shine has opened up about the challenges of playing in Ghana and the life-changing impact of securing a move abroad, highlighting the importance of exposure, opportunity, and financial stability for local players.
Speaking in an interview with TV3’s Warm Up+, Shine reflected on her own journey and the harsh realities many female footballers face in the domestic game.
“Playing outside Ghana, you get the exposure, you better your CV, and the money,” she said. “Because playing in Ghana without the money is difficult.”
Now plying her trade overseas, Shine emphasized how transformative it was to receive her first paycheck abroad, especially in foreign currency.
“Going outside and receiving your first salary and paid in dollars… it is something else,” she added with a smile, visibly grateful for how far she has come.
Her comments resonate deeply at a time when many Ghanaian footballers, particularly in the women’s game; struggle for recognition, infrastructure, and fair compensation within the local league.
Blessing Shine, known for her tenacity and leadership at the back, has become one of the rising stars of the Black Queens, Ghana’s senior women’s national team, and continues to serve as a role model for young girls looking to pursue football professionally.
