Michael Essien says it is a dream come true to have played for Real Madrid as his loan spell with the Spanish giants grinds to an end.
The Ghana international joined Los Blancos at the beginning of the season from Chelsea on a season’s-long loan deal.
Essien has distinguished himself during his time at the Santiago Bernabeu – rebuilding his then bruised reputation of one of the best robust midfielders in the world.
The Ghanaian in his parting words as his loan spell gradually comes to an end says playing for Madrid is a dream come true – a dream he never envisaged happening.
“For me being here is like a dream because I never thought one day I will play for Madrid,†he said.
“But that is life, you know things happen for a reason and I am happy. I have been here on loan for a year and I have enjoyed very part of it.
“It is a big club and the set up shows they are the biggest club because they look after their players and they always want their best for their players.
“The fans also put a lot of pressure but this is Real Madrid and you have to accept it.â€
Essien is set to return to Chelsea this summer where he will link up with Jose Mourinho.
