Fifty selected Physical Education (PE) Teachers from the 16 regions of Ghana are currently undergoing training by FIFA Specialists at the Ghanaman Centre of Excellence at Prampram. These PE teachers, who were carefully selected by the Ghana Education Service, will later train their colleagues at the District and Regional levels as part of the FIFA Football for Schools programme.
The programme lead is Fatimatu Sow Sidibe, Director of the FIFA Football For Schools programme who arrived in Ghana with the rest of the team on Tuesday, August 8, 2023.
The programme will be climaxed at the Nii Adjei Klu Artificial Turf at Tema New Town on Saturday, August 12, 2023 where President Simeon-Okraku, Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif (Hon.) and Director of the Ghana Education Service Dr. Eric Nkansah will be in attendance to close the training.
The FIFA Football For Schools programme also seeks to empower learners (boys and girls) with valuable life skills and competencies, empower and provide coach-educators with the training to deliver sport and life-skills activities, Build the capacity of stakeholders (schools, MAs and public authorities) to deliver training in life skills through football, Strengthen the cooperation between governments, Member Associations (MAs) and participating schools to enable partnerships, alliances and intersectoral collaboration.
The programme which entails mass participation amongst children is currently running in 79 countries in the World and 30 FIFA Member Associations in Africa including Ghana.
The Football For Schools programme will supply 30,000 footballs to kids between the ages of 4-14 at the basic school level in Ghana.
It is an ambitious programme run by FIFA, in collaboration with UNESCO, which aims to contribute to the education, development and empowerment of around 700 million children. It seeks to make football more accessible to both boys and girls around the world by incorporating football activities into the education system, in partnership with relevant authorities and stakeholders.
