Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito believes the club’s recent disappointments in the President’s Cup will serve as a powerful source of motivation ahead of this year’s clash with rivals Hearts of Oak.
The Porcupine Warriors have fallen short in their last two Cup appearances, losing to Hearts of Oak and Ivorian giants ASEC Mimosas.
However, Zito says those memories will drive his side forward.
“It’s always a tough game when you are playing Hearts of Oak, and the expectation is very high with both supporters, so we are preparing towards it,” he told the club’s media.
“We will use it [losses in previous President’s Cup games] to motivate ourselves to go for the cup,” he added.
Zito has named a 20-man squad for the showdown, which includes all seven of the club’s new signings.
The game, scheduled for Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium, will be played in honour of President John Mahama.
Both teams will use the match to fine-tune preparations ahead of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.
