Newly promoted Italian Serie A side Parma Calcio FC have announced the signing of Ghanaian-Japaneese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki from Sint-Truiden.
The 21-year-old inked a five year contract with Parma worth €7.5 million after passing a medical examination on Monday.
The club’s official statement reads: “Zion Suzuki is a Gialloblu!Parma Calcio has officially announced the permanent signing of the goalkeeper from Sint-Truidense, with a contract that runs until June 30, 2029.”
“Zion, a Japanese international with American (born in Little Rock, Arkansas) and Ghanaian heritage, has represented two clubs in his career: Urawa Red Diamonds and Sint-Truidense.”
“I am Zion Suzuki, and I’m happy to be part of Parma Calcio 1913. I know this is a club with a great history and many fans worldwide, and we will be playing in Serie A. For this reason, I will always strive to give my best and contribute to the team’s success,” Suzuki said in an interview.
Suzuki has five clean sheets in 22 games for Sint-Truiden last season.
He was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, to a Ghanaian father and Japanese mother. He rose through the ranks of Urawa Red Diamonds before joining Sint-Truiden in 2020.
