Osei Palmer slams GFA leadership, blames them for Black Stars’ AFCON failure

Wilfred Osei Kwaku Palmer, owner and president of Tema Youth FC, has launched a blistering attack on the Ghana Football Association (GFA), holding its current leadership responsible for the Black Stars’ poor form.

Ghana’s senior national team has faced heavy criticism following a series of dismal performances, culminating in their shocking failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time in 20 years.

The once-dominant four-time African champions ended their AFCON qualifying campaign at the bottom of Group F, managing only three points after six matches, with three draws and three defeats. This dismal run follows consecutive group-stage exits in previous AFCON tournaments.

In an interview with Asempa FM, Palmer did not hold back, accusing the GFA of failing to foster unity within the football community. He believes that their inability to build harmony has directly affected the fortunes of the Black Stars.

“People often ask why the Black Stars are struggling, but the truth is you can’t treat people unfairly and expect the team to thrive,” Palmer said. “The team has lost its blessings. This is a national team I dedicated myself to, and yet, look at how I’ve been treated by the current GFA leadership.”

Expressing deep frustration, Palmer added, “I’m hurt by what has happened. It’s painful, and it’s hard to watch the team suffer like this.”

Looking ahead, the Black Stars will aim to redeem themselves when they face Chad and Madagascar in March during Matchdays 5 and 6 of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
