Ghanaian defender Nurudeen Abdulai says his strong performances for Dunfermline Athletic could earn him a spot in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The former Medeama SC centre-back joined the Scottish Championship side in early September and has quickly impressed after breaking into the starting lineup.
After spending five weeks on the bench, Abdulai made his debut against Queen’s Park on October 4 and has since kept three clean sheets in as many matches — form that has drawn praise from the club’s supporters.
“Playing for Dunfermline is a big platform for me. My country can always call me at any time,” Abdulai told the club’s website.
“Once I am here, I need to improve more so that I can get called up for the World Cup.”
Abdulai, who was named in Ghana’s World Cup qualifying squad but remained an unused substitute, believes his consistent displays in Scotland will keep him on the radar of national selectors.
“I know people watched me in last Friday night’s game — I had a lot of messages,” he added. “When I perform well here, I think I will get a call-up. It motivates me to keep pushing.”
Ghana have already sealed qualification for the 2026 World Cup, and Abdulai hopes his recent rise in Scotland earns him a place among the Black Stars heading to North America next summer.
