Newcastle join Youri Tielemans race

An update has emerged on Newcastle United and their interest in signing Youri Tielemans in the summer transfer window…

What’s the talk?

The Daily Mail have claimed that the Magpies have joined the race to land the Belgium international ahead of Thursday’s 11pm deadline.

In the report, it is stated that the player wants to leave Leicester but the Foxes are yet to receive an acceptable offer for the gem, who has one year left to run on his contract, as they demand £25m for his services.

Eddie Howe is said to want a holding midfielder as well as the former Monaco man as he looks to improve his starting XI.

Craig Hope followed up on this article by Tweeting: “Youri Tielemans has been on Newcastle’s “list” for a while now, but chances were played down earlier in summer. Interestingly, I was told y’day that, while loans were most likely, they could still act if a deal became viable at right price, bringing forward future budgets.”

Imagine him & Bruno

Newcastle must press ahead with a £25m deal for the midfield maestro as he is a Premier League-proven talent who can come in and hit the ground running in the coming months.

He is now in his fifth season in the top flight and is yet to average seasonal SofaScore rating lower than 7.00. This shows that he has played to a high standard on a consistent basis since arriving at Leicester from Monaco – proving that he is a quality player at this level.

Meanwhile, Bruno Guimaraes was the only Newcastle player with 10+ appearances to average a SofaScore rating higher than 6.98. This illustrates just how impressive Tielemans’ run of form over the years has been and why he could be an excellent addition to the team.

Talent scout Jacek Kulig previously dubbed him an “outrageous” talent and former Sweden international Par Zetterberg once described him as a “phenomenon“.

He has enjoyed a sublime start to the current campaign with the Foxes. The gem is averaging a rating of 7.38, 1.8 key passes per game, and 2.3 tackles and interceptions, whilst also winning a whopping 80% of his individual duels.

Newcastle must now add his quality to their squad as he could be an exciting player to watch play alongside Guimaraes in the middle of the park.

The Brazil international has been sublime since he joined the club from Lyon in January, averaging a SofaScore rating of 7.25 last term and 7.13 this season.

In that time, he has averaged over three tackles and interceptions per game, won over 55% of his duels, and chipped in with five goals.

The pair’s respective statistics show that they are both all-action, box-to-box, midfielders who are capable of performing to a high level in the Premier League, which is why they could form an exciting partnership for the fans to watch.
